|Title||Scholarly Recommendation in the Era of Big Data|
Scientific research and publishing have been generating large volumes of scholarly data at a rapidly-increasing speed. With the development of online academic services, such as advanced academic digital libraries, online academic social networks and academic search engines, scholars are able to access to various scholarly data more easily. In the academic landscape in general, however, the rapid rise of big scholarly data brings about new issues and challenges with respect to e.g. information retrieval, data management and analysis. For instance, with the number of publications getting larger and larger, scholars have to find related papers from massive potential candidates, which is time-consuming and tedious. As an effective tool for solving such information overload problems, recommender systems have been successfully applied in diverse domains including e-commerce, entertainment, e-learning, news, traveling, and so on. This talk will address scholarly recommender systems that explore big scholarly data, including e.g. scholarly article recommendation, collaborator recommendation, and venue recommendation. The opportunities, challenges, and recent advances in this field will be introduced.
